Veterans Cultural Competency
Our Basics of Veteran Culture course is designed for you to be able to accomplish in only a couple hours, without having to leave your own desk!
Our course is broken up into video modules, self-study material, pre-tests, and a final quiz.
In this workshop we cover military history, training, and experiences and how each of these plays into the basic aspects of Veteran culture.
This course will provide the foundation for more advanced discussions regarding trauma among the Veterans community

Your Instructor
Joshua Penner is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the Iraq War, having served from 2004-2011. While still in the Marines, Josh completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, WA. During this time Josh began working intensely with Veterans throughout Washington State, helping them to navigate and advocating for them within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), and any other system that Veterans came in contact with.
Josh has developed Veterans resources and programs in Mental Health, Legal Services, Higher Education, and Disability Advocacy. He has developed and partnered with other providers on curricula for Veterans program providers including, Veterans benefits and Military Sexual Trauma. Josh provides professional training to a number of organizations on topics including: Veterans Resources, Case Management, Building Relationships with Veterans, and Trauma Informed Care/Crisis Intervention Training.
In 2011, Josh was elected as a City Councilman for the City of Orting, WA where he resides. In 2014, Josh's fellow council members honored him by electing him the deputy Mayor of Orting for 2015.
